Forest School and bushcraft sessions give children the chance to explore, discover and grow in the natural world; developing a wide range of skills that support both their academic learning and personal development. We work in partnership with Taller than Trees Forest School to access this provision which takes place in a beauticul space just a 5 minute drive from our school.
Confidence and Resilience Outdoor learning encourages children to take safe, supported risks. Whether they’re building a shelter, lighting a fire under supervision, or climbing over natural obstacles, pupils learn to trust their abilities, persevere through challenges and celebrate achievements.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Time spent in nature has been shown to reduce stress and improve mood. Forest School offers a calm, sensory-rich environment where children can relax, reset and feel grounded. It also nurtures mindfulness as pupils learn to observe and appreciate the natural world around them.
Teamwork and Communication Bushcraft activities naturally require cooperation. Children learn how to solve problems together, share tools, listen to one another’s ideas and support their peers. These experiences strengthen social skills and help build strong, positive relationships.
Physical Development Outdoor sessions promote physical activity in a way that is fun and engaging. Climbing, balancing, lifting, digging and exploring all help develop coordination, strength and fine and gross motor skills.
Curiosity and Creativity Nature is an incredible classroom. From identifying plants and animals to creating art with natural materials, children learn to ask questions, investigate and think creatively. These sessions foster a lifelong love of learning and exploration.
Independence and Practical Skills Bushcraft introduces pupils to hands-on techniques such as knot tying, fire lighting, tool use and shelter building—all taught safely and age‑appropriately. These practical experiences build independence, problem‑solving skills and a sense of responsibility.
Environmental Awareness Forest School encourages children to understand and care for the environment. They learn about ecosystems, conservation and the impact of human activity, helping them become responsible global citizens.
