  • Be the best that we can be

Curriculum Intent

Here at Mylor Bridge CP School we have worked to ensure that the curriculum is designed, sequenced and is delivered to ensure that pupils are enabled to 'Be the best that they can be'. Our three core values of Reflection, Relationships and Resilience are carefully woven into our curriculum and we provide our pupils opportunities to embody these values as citizens of the future. Underpinning our curriculum are three beliefs: that pupils at Mylor Bridge school should be proud of their Cornish identity; that pupils at Mylor Bridge should make a positive difference in their community; and that inspiring visits and expert visitors should be embraced where ever and when ever possible.

It is our intent to ensure that our curriculum goes beyond the experiences of the classroom to provide the
richest and most varied opportunities possible, in order to:

  • Provide outstanding outcomes for the future of young people.
  • Deliver a curriculum which celebrates our Cornish heritage, alongside being inquisitive and respectful
of others, including those who share a protected characteristic.
  • Engage children in a relevant, meaningful and challenging curriculum that stimulates and engages all
pupils, encouraging and supporting the development of fluency and expertise to ensure that children
    know more and remember more.
  • Ensure excellent delivery of carefully sequenced knowledge and skills that children can transfer
between subjects and phases of their education.
  • Develop children's ambition and use of initiative, to encourage them to question and to not always
    accept the first answer.
  • Understand their roles and responsibilities within their community; be that local, national,
    international or virtual.
  • Know how the core British and School Values underpin these roles and
responsibilities and know how to stay safe and keep others safe within these worlds.
  • Enjoy positive mental and physical health.

Curriculum Implementation

In order to ensure that learning in every subject is sequenced appropriately, we have linked progression
documents to our curriculum maps. We ensure that learning is carefully sequenced and builds on prior knowledge. This provides the children with the opportunity to revisit vital skills and knowledge regularly, embedding this learning and
therefore becoming subject-specific experts.

Where ever meaningful, subjects are interconnected allowing children to see and build links in their learning.

Our book curriculum texts are selected to provide further insight into areas of learning in the classroom as well as providing windows into the worlds of others and mirrors back into their own lives.

Opportunities are provided wherever possible for learning to happen beyond the currciulum be that on the sports pitch when participating in competeative or developing sporting activities; at forest school or bushcraft; through performances and concerts to parents and the local community; or on the Helford River during a sailing lesson.

Curriculum Impact

At Mylor Bridge CP school we do not mistake coverage for progress or understanding and ensure that ROCK (Retrievial of Core Knowledge) tasks are designed to regularly check learning and understanding.

The Leadership Team (including the SENCO) monitor the impact of the curriculum across the course of the year to ensure that out outcomes for pupils remain aspirational.

Pupils may leave Mylor Bridge CP school at 11 years old but they are always part of our school community.
